EXPERIENCE TO BUILD A BETTER NORMAL
I’m Dr. Kathryn Bedell. I’m a veterinarian, a rancher, and a business owner. Today I serve as Mesa County's representative on the state Agriculture Commission. I’m also a mom and come from a proud family who's served in the US military since the early 1900's.
We’ve got some deep roots here in Mesa County. A culture of trail-blazing toughness, independence, and family. I've had the chance to live that legacy, bringing quality local farm produce and beef to families like yours. I’ve run that business through the booms and busts that many of you know all too well.
As a business owner, I’ve spent the last two decades watching our region and our livelihoods lurch from one crisis to the next and asking, “are we really looking at our problems in the right way?”
I'm running with a vision to make Mesa County a hub for a new generation of Western living: A hub for homegrown jobs that don’t pack up and move away. A hub for a new generation of blue collar, agriculture, and high-tech services jobs where families can make a good living. And a hub for the quality of life and services Mesa families deserve – public safety, smart medicine, great senior living, and good schools.
A NEW KIND
Rural America won't survive without a new kind of politics.
Small Western cities and communities like ours can return to problem-solving with our own ideas on our terms if we have the courage to break free of the partisan shackles that have taken over our national life.
We now have the chance to create our own local public-private partnerships that put job-creation tools into the hands of small businesses and Mesa County entrepreneurs in agriculture, light industry, and high-tech innovation to fuel a new era of local prosperity. By moving our economy up the value-added chain and crafting smart long-term plans for new industries, we can generate the public revenues needed to bring our infrastructure, schools, and quality of life investments up to speed with our competitors.
As a leader in national agricultural industries innovation and local Mesa County community planning, I bring my own ideas to this race - but I'm only part of the puzzle. I'm running to create the kinds of community conversations that can enlist all of our experiences, ideas, and hopes for smarter county policy - and I need to hear from you.
